Five herbs good for children's skin conditions

With medicine recalls and an increase in allergic reactions to prescription medications, many parents are looking for natural alternatives to use in their home medicine cabinets. These five herbs are all useful for children's skin irritations.

Aloe Vera is one of the most well-known plants for skin conditions in all of herbal medicine, used most often with small wounds and burns.

Calendula is an herb used for irritated, burned, or itching skin conditions. I've even seen it used for diaper rashes in homemade diaper cream.

Comfrey is a well-known herbal remedy for the strong anti-inflammatory effect it has when it comes to soothing skin irritations, however, it should not be applied to broken skin or taken internally.

St. John's Wort is a natural remedy most often used as a mild anti-depressant, however, it does well used externally on minor injuries or ear aches as well.

Yarrow is an anti-inflammatory herbal remedy and can sooth major skin problems such as chicken pox, eczema sores, or poison ivy.
Obviously for serious burns or skin injuries parents should seek the help of a health care professional, however, it is possible for parents to soothe many skin irritations at home by using natural herbal remedies for their children.
